Waimānalo Beach Park
April 20, 2019
9am to 6pm

The Na‘alehu Theatre announces the 12 th Annual Gabby Pahinui Waimānalo Kanikapila.
This annual gathering of more than 100 of Hawai‘i’s best musicians and hula dancers is held in Waimānalo to honor Gabby Pahinui and his contributions to Hawaiian music and to acknowledges the musical heritage of the Waimānalo community.

This FREE event also includes: educational and informational booths, music workshops, cultural
demonstrations and displays, lomi lomi massage, food booths that support athletics and community groups, and some arts and craft vendors. A second day, April 21 st was been added to the festival that features an extensive beach clean-up managed by Sustainable Coastlines Hawai‘i. In 2018, over 1800 people were recruited for this amazing community activity.

Paying homage to his late father, Cyril Pahinui initiated the Gabby Pahinui Waimānalo Kanikapila in 2007. The festival is designed after gatherings remembered from Cyril’s childhood days, when weekends at the family’s home on Bell Street in Waimānalo were a continuous kanikapila. As in those days, the event attracts more than 100 musicians and gives thousands of fans an opportunity to witness some truly unforgettable moments, amazing performances, and one of a kind all-star jams by some of Hawai‘i’s greatest musicians who get together to play music in the park. The 12th annual festival celebrates the musical heritage of Waimānalo, Gabby’s April 22nd birthday, Cyril’s April 21st birthday, and offers a special recognition of Cyril’s recent passing. Cyril was excited about the festival, performance line-up and the beach clean-up and was instrumental in selecting the T-shirt design.

In addition to the festival and at Cyril’s request, the Na‘alehu Theatre has also committed to and been
approved by the City and County of Honolulu Parks Department to begin fund-raising to support
replacement of the Pavilion at the beach park including added amenities and features. A second shirt has been designed and will be available both online and at the event that supports this effort. We look forward to making this a dynamic community effort supported by world-wide t-shirt sales, which can be purchased at the event or online at: www.naalehutheatre.com

Presented in partnership with Nā‘ālehu Theatre, City and County of Honolulu, ‘Aha Mele, Outrigger
Hotels, Hawaii Tourism Authority, and OHA the Gabby Pahinui Waimānalo Kanikapila is FREE to attend and is supported by sales of t-shirts, which can be purchased at the event or online at
